Mandrake Linux speaks Georgian
This is one of the most important AGS projects. As GNU Linux operating system is getting more and more user-friendly, gaining more and more popularity, it very important to have a localized version of GNU Linux Distributions. The open source architecture and active i18n community have made the task easier.
To support Georgian l10n of GNU Linux and open-source development in Georgia, I have created kafont package and also published the GNU General Public License in Georgian couple of years ago. As a prior distribution for Georgian localization, I have chosen Mandrake Linux. It has been around for quite a while, is considered the most user-friendly by many people and has shown dedication to i18n and l10n. Mandrake Linux's goal is to be available in practically every language spoken today :)
The project started a few years ago and there have been many issues to be solved related to Georgian language and Unicode support. Many thanks go to Pablo Saratxaga, the localizations manager of Mandrakesoft, who has done a lot for the Georgian language to be properly represented in a number of applications and systems.
As a result, it is now possible to fully localize the distribution in Georgian. The system comes with Georgian locale, fonts, keyboard input scripts, etc. The leading Georgian font vendor BPG Info-Tech has generously agreed to include the best Georgian scalable font at present, BPG Glaho, so the next Mandrake Linux version (10.2) should already be fully localized and default with BPG Glaho for Georgian.
See Enabling Georgian for instructions on using Georgian language support on Mandrake Linux.
Enjoy!
